RARE & SCRATCHY ROCK 'N ROLL #_052 – THE COMPLETE SINGLES HISTORY OF JOHN DENVER
This episode spotlights a singer/songwriter/actor/political activist who was one the world’s best-selling performers of the 1970s. His career spanned the late 1960s through his untimely death in 1997.
Among the 300 or so songs that he recorded, he also composed about 200 of them. Those tunes celebrated nature, world peace, Americana, and romantic relationships.
Although he’s best remembered as a pop and adult contemporary music star, many of his records also were constants on the country chart. An ode to his first wife was among his biggest hits.
Another trademark tune inspired a television movie and series. He was honored by two U.S. presidents, including one whose policies he had publicly protested. Despite all of his hard work to promote humanitarian causes worldwide, he was rejected by the producers who assembled an international super group for a mega-hit benefit recording supporting African hunger relief.
He was John Denver.
